KHP taking part in seat belt awareness campaign in area high schools
The Kansas Highway Patrol is taking part in an awareness campaign which will focus on seat belt safety at area high schools .
The two week campaign runs February 24 - March 7.
Troopers will work with local law enforcement in the aggressive campaign, called SAFE (Seatbelts Are For Everyone).
In 2012, 43 teens in Kansas were killed in vehicle crashes - 74 percent were not properly restrained. KDOT is hoping the two week campaign will help to decrease that number.
For the next two weeks, State Troopers and other law enforcment officers will be extra vigilant when patrolling around schools.
Anyone caught not properly restrained will be issued a citation.
