Impostor gets away with Red Cross van
A man posing as a car dealership employee got away with a Red Cross van on July 11th.
Wichita Police say a man wearing an orange safety vent came to the Red Cross office and claimed one of their vans was involved in a safety recall. The man had the van's VIN number and license plate, and said he needed to take the van back to the dealership to be inspected.
It turns out the man tried the same thing the day before, at the USD 259 office. Employees there were skeptical and asked the man questions until he left empty handed.
Police Lt., Dan East, says the department has checked with dealerships around Wichita, and that is not how they would handle a recall. East says any recall notice will likely come from the manufacturer.
