Foster care agency can resume activities

Foster care agency can resume activities

By George Lawson. CREATED Aug 8, 2014

The Kansas Department for Children and Families is allowing placements to resume with a foster care agency in Wichita.  Placements with TFI were suspended after the July 24th hot car death of a ten-month-old baby girl.

29-year-old Seth Jackson is charged with first degree murder for the death of his foster daughter, Kadillak Poe-Jones, who was left in the back seat of a car in the 1500 block of South Topeka.

TFI is a subcontractor for foster care services. DCF Secretary Phyllis Gilmore said in a press release that all TFI-sponsored homes have been inspected and placements will be allowed to resume.  She said no major issues were discovered during the inspections.

DCF and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment have created a work group to look at policies, procedures and practices related to foster care licensing, placements and inspections.  The work group will have its first meeting in the near future, and its recommendations will be presented in the fall.
