El Dorado man pleas guilty in June 2013 fatal crash in west Wichita

By Wil Day. CREATED Aug 7, 2014

A man accused of causing a fatal accident that killed and elderly Wichita woman in June of 2013 has pleaded guilty.

District Attorney Marc Bennett's office says 35-year-old Matthew Mabry pleaded guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery.  Mabry was accused of causing the accident that killed 90-year-old Arlene Root.

It happened on June 24 of 2013.  Bennett's office says Mabry was driving on Central in west Wichita when he crossed the center line and his pickup truck collided with a landscaping trailer.  That trailer then struck a car being driven by Root.  Root was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mabry also pleaded guilty last Friday to 6 counts of burglary and 3 counts of theft in a separate case.  Mabry stole 3 pickup trucks, a trailer and other items including a mountain bike and wheel lock sets from businesses in east Wichita.

Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 29.
