Council members oppose legislative move to end local spring elections
Members of Wichita City Council have passed a resolution opposing the legislative move to end local spring elections.
The vote was unanimous.
City Manager Robert Layton says the bills threaten local control of local elections.
The current bills would move all local elections, including Wichita City Council and Wichita School board, to the fall on odd numbered years.
Only 6.1 percent of elegible voters in Sedgwick County voted in city and council elections last April.
