Cop poses as delivery driver in Wichita drug bust
Two Wichita men are facing federal drug trafficking charges after an undercover operation.
A news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office says police found three pounds of methamphetamine inside a car after they stopped Michael Ortega-Alvarez for a traffic violation on May 6. Ortega-Alvarez, 45, allegedly revealed to detectives that he was supposed to deliver the package to a man he didn't know.
A police officer then posed as the delivery driver and, using Ortega-Alvarez' phone, received instructions to hand off the package in the parking lot of the QuikTrip at 31st Street South and Hillside.
Officers eventually arrested the alleged recipient, Manuel Bencomo-Rodriguez, 47.
If convicted, both men face up to ten years in federal prison.
