Areas of northwest Kansas are getting snow

CREATED Oct. 17, 2013

GOODLAND, Kan. (AP) Residents of far northwest Kansas are finding themselves coping with the first measureable snow of the season.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Goodland issued a winter weather advisory Thursday evening for Cheyenne and Sherman counties, in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Friday (Mountain Daylight Time).

Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches were expected overnight, with another inch possible before the snow ends at mid-morning Friday.

But anything remaining on the ground is likely to melt Saturday amid sunny conditions and temperatures of 60 or a bit higher.

The advisory area includes the cities of Goodland and St. Francis.
