GREAT BEND, Kan. (AP) Two people are dead after their single-engine airplane crashed into a central Kansas field not long after takeoff.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the victims as 49-year-old Roger Brining of Great Bend and 24-year-old Daniel Bishop of Clearfield, Utah.

The patrol says the experimental Schrieber P70 crashed at 11:33 a.m. Sunday in Barton County after taking off from the Great Bend airport.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
