Sarah Palin reportedly lifts speech from a chain e-mail

By Phyllis Stark. CREATED Mar 11, 2014

Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin gave the closing speech at the three-day Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland on March 8. And while “she talked about a variety of issues, criticizing both the domestic and foreign policies of the Obama administration and encouraging conservatives to send more people to Congress,” according to C-SPAN, it was something else the former Governor of Alaska said in her speech that garnered the most attention.

According to UPI, when her speech “borrowed from Dr. Seuss classic ‘Green Eggs and Ham,’ many people hailed her for being quite clever. As it turns out, the good doctor might not have been the only person Palin was borrowing from.” Some of her speech appears to have been lifted directly from a chain email

“This is from an email that was apparently circulating as early as 2010,” UPI reports. “Although it isn’t identical, the similarities to Palin’s speech are fairly obvious:”

I do not like this Uncle Sam,
I do not like his health care scam.
I do not like these dirty crooks,
or how they lie and cook the books.
I do not like when Congress steals,
I do not like their secret deals.
I do not like this speaker, Nan,
I do not like this ‘YES WE CAN’.
I do not like this spending spree,
I’m smart, I know that nothing’s free,
I do not like your smug replies,
when I complain about your lies.
I do not like this kind of hope.
I do not like it. nope, nope, nope!

Here is what Palin recited at CPAC:

I do not like this, Uncle Sam.
I do not like this healthcare scam.
I do not like these dirty crooks
Or how they lie and cook the books
I do not like when Congress steals
I do not like their crony deals
I do not like 'oh yes, we can'
I do not like this spending spree
We're smart, we know nothing's free
I do not like reporters' smug replies
When I complain about their lies
I do not like this kind of hope
And we won't take it
Nope, nope, nope!
