Woman Accused of Killing Infant Free on Bond After 20 Years

CREATED May 30, 2014

TULSA (KTUL) Michelle Murphy is set to be released after spending nearly 20 years in prison for the murder of her infant son.

District Attorney Tim Harris agreed to vacate the sentence and conviction after questions of new DNA blood evidence.

Michelle Murphy can face a new trial because the sentence and conviction were voided, but she still is charged in the murder. Double jeopardy does not apply because she wasn’t exonerated.

She should be released on $10,000 bond later today.

According to the judge, Murphy will reside in the home of her high school GED teacher, in Broken Arrow. She will wear a GPS ankle monitor and will not be allowed to have contact with any convicted felons, or children that are not relatives.

Murphy will appear back in court June 24. At that time the judge will review her bond status and will set a date for a hearing to review evidence in this case.

Murphy's attorneys allege that a teenager from her neighborhood was guilty of stabbing her three week old son to death.
