TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) The chief of police in Tahlequah is planning to expand the department's canine program.

Police Chief Nate King tells The Tahlequah Daily Press that he hopes to expand the program through existing bond funds or through private donations.

King says the canine program is priority for the department and is now in the process of selecting its next canine handler from the police force.

The selected handler would join another officer who acts as a handler for Bo, a 4-year-old Dutch shepherd who sniffs out narcotics. The officer and canine currently work an overnight shift.

A second handler and dog would allow the department to have a dog on duty during the day.
