OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma finance officials say nearly 400 state employees whose salaries are funded with federal dollars are scheduled to begin furloughs next Friday if a funding agreement is not reached in Congress.
Office of Management and Enterprise Services spokesman John Estus said Wednesday that two state agencies already have submitted furlough plans for 388 state employees who will stop reporting for work on Oct. 18. That includes 277 employees at the Department of Rehabilitation Services and 111 employees at the Oklahoma Military Department. Estus said other state agencies have indicated furloughs may be necessary if the partial government shutdown continues.
The DRS employees being furloughed next week work in the agency's Social Security Disability Determination Division, while the Military Department employees perform a variety of roles for the Oklahoma National Guard.
