OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin says he is unequivocally opposed to U.S. involvement in the Syrian conflict, including the use of air strikes against the Middle Eastern country.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the first-term Republican said it is not the responsibility of the U.S. to get involved in a country's civil war and that neither side in the conflict there have the United States' best interest in mind.
President Barack Obama requested congressional approval for limited military action in Syria over the weekend.
Most of Oklahoma's congressional delegation appear to be opposed to action against Syria or leaning toward opposition. U.S. Rep. James Lankford said Tuesday he has "major reservations" about a long-term strategy in the region, while Rep. Jim Bridenstine said he remained "skeptical."
