Helicopter damaged while being transported to Tulsa parade

CREATED Nov. 11, 2013 - UPDATED: Nov. 11, 2013

TULSA (KFAQ) - A restored Vietnam-era military helicopter on its way to Tulsa's Veterans Day Parade fell off a trailer, broke into pieces and forced the shutdown of part of the downtown inner-dispersal loop.

The helicopter was schedule to be a part of the parade and then go to a museum.

Sheriff deputies say a cable holding the aircraft came loose as wind caught the rotor causing it to snag on an overhead sign.

Veterans who had worked more than 2 years restoring the helicopter say they were shocked and saddened by the accident that left the helicopter in pieces.
