Government shutdown cancels OU-Texas tradition

NORMAN (KFAQ) - An annual OU-Texas football tradition is being cancelled because of the government shutdown, just days ahead of Saturday's game. The annual running of the ball will not happen this year.
The decades old tradition of the Navy ROTC running the ball as part of a relay with one group running from Austin and the other from Norman meeting in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl. The annual relay raises money for Toys for Tots.
The Secretary of the Navy reportedly told both schools to cancel the event and other extra-curricular activities due to the government shutdown.
