OHP plans saturation patrol in Tulsa this weekend

CREATED Jul 3, 2013

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol will have enhanced patrols Friday night in the Tulsa area as part of a Fourth of July crackdown on drunken driving and other traffic offenses.

OHP says 15 troopers will participate in the special patrol, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday and running until 3 a.m. Saturday.

Troopers will focus on saturation patrols from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. Friday and will then set up a DUI checkpoint in the area of the Seventh Street exit in downtown Tulsa. Highway patrol Capt. Jerry Reagan says that area has seen many DUI injury collisions in the past.

Reagan says the patrol hopes to stop impaired drivers before they get on the road. Last year, four people were killed in traffic crashes over the Fourth of July weekend.
