SAND SPRINGS (KFAQ) - Sand Springs police have made an arrest in an attempted rape case.
49-year-old Steven Ray Bowes was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Occupied Dwelling Unfit for Habitation. He was subsequently interviewed about the rape case. Police say as a result of that interview and evidence that was associated to the case, Bowes was arrested on charges of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and attempted forcible sodomy.
Police say the case began with a 20 year old woman who says she was attacked while running at River City Park. She told police the suspect was riding a bicycle and forced her into a wooded area at gunpoint. During the ordeal, he allegedly pulled a knife and demanded she perform sexual acts. At one point during the incident, police say the woman started fighting with the suspect, sustaining a cut to a hand. Police also believe the suspect was stabbed during the fight, causing him to flee the scene.
