Rihanna donates $25,000 after breaking LAPD President's phone
Singer Rihanna has donated $25,000 to the L.A. Police Commission after breaking Commission President Steve Soboroff's cellphone.
As previously reported, during the recent Los Angeles Clippers Game 3 playoff game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, "Soboroff had Rihanna pose [for a selfie] with a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) tagged bracelet. Yet, in the motion of returning his phone to Soboroff post-selfie, Rihanna dropped it." Rihanna was seat neighbors with Soboroff during the game.
Soboroff later got the broken phone signed by Rihanna during Game 4, with plans to auction it off on eBay to benefit the Los Angeles Police Foundation. "Soboroff said he thought the photo would help boost morale after a series of tragic deaths within the LAPD, which has lost five officers in the last two months -- four in collisions and one of a heart attack," reports the Los Angeles Times.
Rihanna has since pledged $25,000 in addition to the funds raised by the eBay auction to "help fund police cadets from underprivileged backgrounds and the families of fallen officers," further reports the Los Angeles Times.
The current eBay bid is $30,600 with 69 bids and counting.
