It was a dramatic moment for Hillary Clinton during her speech in Las Vegas, when a woman threw something at the former secretary of state while she was on stage.
There was a collective gasp from the crowd at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, when a woman in a cocktail dress charged toward the stage and hurled an object at the former first lady.
Witnesses said it was a shoe wrapped in paper.
The incident left Clinton slightly startled, but relatively unphased.
"Is that someone throwing something at me? Is that a part of Cirque du Soleil? My goodness, I didn't know solid waste management was so controversial," joked Clinton.
Despite the interruption, she continued with her speech as the woman was escorted out.
The speech was at an Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries meeting. Clinton has been traveling the country giving paid speeches to industry organizations and appearing before key Democratic Party constituents.
Authorities said the woman who threw the object would be arrested.
