Three lion cubs were introduced to their father outdoors for the first time at the Oregon Zoo last week, and as the Huffington Post reported in an amusing headline, they proceeded to “immediately annoy the hell out of him.”

The zoo sees it differently. In a post on their web site, Oregon Zoo officials say the 500-pound father, Zawadi Mungo, “demonstrated a surprising tolerance for a flurry of pint-sized attacks on his mane, tail and patience” after the curious and playful cubs immediately rushed at him. The three cubs, all females, had previously met their father only once, in an indoor den a few days earlier.
Zookeeper Laura Weiner says after the initial outdoor meeting shown in the video above, “as time passed he grew more patient. A few days later, he was grooming them."
“The pride has continued spending time together outdoors, where they've also shared meals,” the zoo reports. “The cubs—now ten times their birth weight—rarely nurse.
