FORT MYERS, Fla. - On Apple product release days you can almost guarantee a line of tech enthusiasts wrapped around the electronics store of your choice, but anticipation seemed to fizzle out at area stores today.
Fans cheered as the doors opened at an Apple store in London earlier today and even more camped outside of the flagship Apple store in NYC this morning.
Back here in Southwest Florida only a handful of people lined up outside of a Fort Myers Best Buy.
The excitement was low and so was the supply.
"They didn't have the 32GB gold edition that I really wanted," said Stephanie Baker, "We just stood here for two hours for nothing!"
The new iPhone 5s comes in three colors: silver, 'space gray' (a fancy name for black), and for the first time - gold.
And just like the real thing, it was pretty hard to come by.
"Will you settle for something other than that one," asked Four in Your Corner's Julian Glover?
"I don't know, I don't know if I can settle," answered Stephanie Hart.
Because of the scarce supply, many people left empty handed.
These supply shortages aren't a Best buy issue. It's potentially an Apple stocking and supply problem worldwide.
Earlier this week major tech blogs "9 to 5 Mac" and "All Things D" warned of the potential shortage, with headlines like "Expect Silver and Gold iPhone 5s to be Extra Scarce"
The reason? Apple is pushing it's lower-end but colorful iPhone 5c model - that's reported to be the lion's share of current supplies sent to stores.
While some told us they're prepared to backorder the perfect iPhone for them, others just had to have it on release day.
"So you're a little disappointed that you couldn't get the gold model, but you're happy that you did get the one you have," asked Four in Your Corner's Julian Glover.
"I'm happy I got an iPhone period, I don't car what it is," said Stephanie Baker.
