FORT MYERS, Fla. - A Southwest Florida grandmother's dreams going up in smoke after her home is destroyed in a fire.
It happened in the Franklin Park section of Fort Myers near Lafayette and Brown Streets around 9 in the morning, where Carolyn Mitchell lived with her three sons, grand kids and two dogs. Luckily, no one was home at the time.
"This was my dream house. I built this, I was the contractor, so I got to build it exactly how I wanted. It's the house I always dreamed of having," says Mitchell.
Seven units and more than 20 Fort Myers fire fighters fought the blaze. One fire fighter was sent to the hospital as a precautionary measure ans is expected to be OK.
The fire burned so hot and so big, it tore through the entire roof of this the nearly 4,000 square foot home in a matter of minutes. The home is a total loss.
The fire marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
The family's 2 dogs also survived the ordeal.
