BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - A man from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania found out the hard way that blocking traffic for a parking space can land you in jail.
A Lee County deputy spotted a van blocking the entrance to Bonita Beach Park Monday afternoon. The deputy ordered the driver to move and he refused. He told the deputy that he had been driving around for 45 minutes looking for a parking space and that he was waiting for one to open.
The deputy ordered the man to move his van one more time and at the point 71-year-old Carmen James Torockio rolled up his window. The deputy ordered him out of the vehicle and Torockio refused his command.
At that point a parking space opened up and Torockio drove away to the spot and parked his van.
The deputy then placed Torockio under arrest. He told the deputy that he wasn't under arrest and asked him if he didn't have anything better to do. Torockio then resisted arrest according to the deputy.
Torockio was charged with resisting arrest, failure to obey and violating a county ordinance. His van was towed.
