CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Children's Home and Aid in Illinois says it's holding seminars targeting same sex couples to show them adoption is an option.
The owner of the agency says many couples shy away from the idea because they think the process is harder for a gay couple but Jennifer Mitchell stresses that's not the case.
"It's really not anymore difficult going through the process as it would be for a traditional heterosexual couple. Most of the steps pretty much are all the same," said Mitchell.
Most of the people responding on Facebook support the agency's request.
Lisa posted, "As long as they are good people who will love and provide for a child what difference does sexual orientation make?"
Jennifer wrote, "Putting children's needs ahead of their own beliefs. Nice. Now if the rest of the country would act the same way..."
Mitch from Fort Myers called Fox Four and said promoting a request for same sex couples to adopt is a bad idea.
"It's unbiblical, it's ungodly, it's just wrong but that's the way our nation is going so it seems," he said.
Charles posted on Facebook, "No don't confuse kids intentionally!! If a same-sex couple wants to adopt that's great but our system should not be responsible for that source of influence."
