Viewers Voice: Controversy surrounds upcoming concert in Fort Myers

By Miriam Zamorano. CREATED Aug 19, 2014

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Expect to see "Jugalos" and "Jugalettes" in Downtown Fort Myers come October.

The Insane Clown Posse is bringing it's act to Shockfest at Harborside Event Center on the 8th but it's the group's following that has some, including, city councilman Tom Leonardo worried.

"We're not going to allow bear breasted women painted in blood from walking up and down first street. Sorry folks, it's not going to happen," said Leonardo in Monday night's meeting.

Council decided to move forward with the show but is changing policy so that every group that wants to perform at a city-owned facility must be vetted.

Kim in Fort Myers thinks those against the ICP are just overreacting.

"You can wear a Mickey Mouse shirt and kill somebody so I don't really don't think that's the problem. I think they're overreacting the whole situation," she said.

"Don't ban any good bands. We need to have more concerts in Fort Myers once in a while," said Sasha.

In 2011, the FBI labeled the rap duo's followers "a loosely organized hybrid gang."

That's hitting a sour note with David who posted to Facebook, "These guys bring nothing but trouble."

Crystal sent an email saying in part, "The Downtown Fort Myers area is supposed to have a family atmosphere. While those individuals are in the Downtown area, my family, who frequents Downtown, will not be Downtown spending our money!"

The Fort Myers Police Chief said security will also be heightened with additional resources the night of the concert.

This would be the Insane Clown Posse's second concert in Fort Myers. They first performed here in 1999 but were shut down due to noise.
