CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Now that the Republican Party of Florida is calling for Congressman Trey Radel's resignation, more voters are speaking up,
some echo the Party's request, others said he deserves a second chance.
After a very public apology and a plea for your patience, Rep. Radel is on a leave of absence but has intentions of returning to work as soon as possible.
The chairman of the Republican Party of Florida is calling for Radel to step down. In a statement, he said, "The people of Florida's 19th congressional district need a congressman who is 100% focused on the needs of Southwest Florida..."
Rick from Fort Myers agrees. He said, "It's obviously a job that he can't handle because he's doing other things. He needs to resign, move on and go get some help. I wish him well."
Lee County Republican leaders said in part of a statement,"We strongly encourage him to reflect on his ability to remain effective and that a return to congress may serve only as an impediment to his recovery..."
Chris from Naples saying he would like to see Radel come back stronger. "Trey has a good track record and he should be given the benefit of the doubt. He has enough troubles, he doesn't need anymore troubles created by the Republican Party."
Dorothy from Lehigh said she voted for Radel but now she said, "If he had a disease, that should have been cured before he ran to serve Southwest Florida because he has degraded our area."
Dennis from Fort Myers supports the Congressman and said, "There's too many people that have made one mistake and have gotten a second chance. He deserves one too."
Congressman Radel is seeking treatment at a Naples facility after his cocaine bust went public just last week.
