CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Police believe Kenneth Pearson showed up with a gun to Oasis Charter School on Monday in Cape Coral to confront his estranged wife. Administrators say they met him by his car and no students were ever in danger.
Still, Phyllis Bishop, whose son goes to Oasis, is furious and said the school did not immediately contact her about the incident.
"If they knew there was a threat, that school should have been immediately put on lock down," said Bishop.
The school superintendent, Dr. Angela Pruitt insisted there was no need for a lock down but many viewers say the mom has a right to be upset.
"If he posed no threat by bringing the gun to school then why didn't they just let him out of jail?" Why should they lock him up then?" asked Tom from Cape Coral.
Lynn writing in an email said she also wasn't made aware of the situation. She asks, "Where is the trust? Now she (the superintendent) has breached the sanctity of our school!!"
But Tig from Naples sent Fox Four an email saying, "Every gun owner isn't a threat to society and I'm glad there were some school officials available to make a common sense decision. That mother needs to relax and not expect drama every time the word "gun" is mentioned!"
Dr. Pruitt says she did send an email the day after the incident. The school is reviewing all of its safety policies.
