CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A councilman's memo is getting many of you talking. Johnny Streets letter targets the Fort Myers Police Department and its leadership.
Without naming names, Streets who served as an officer for 26 years is calling for change.
Dated July 17th, it says there's a "deficit of effective leadership and supervision" within the department. It also highlights quote "key deficiencies" in policies, procedures and in the "handling of disciplinary matters that are seen as harsh and ineffective."
The memo was sent to the city manager.
People around Southwest Florida are chiming in now.
James says the police chief shouldn't be a target.
"I don't think he should be. First, we have the FBI coming to town now we have the chief of police...people wanting him fired. What's going on in Fort Myers?"
Christy posting to Facebook in response to Streets' memo, "Then maybe you should run for the chief's job... I believe that a whole lot of you council folks need to be fired..."
Louise thinks Streets has enough experience to know what's best and sides with change.
"I agree with him. He knows, He's been there, he's done that," said Louise.
Judy wrote on Facebook, "Every official dept. can always use a house cleaning!!"
Mike wondering what other officers think writing, "Poll the department."
