Tropical Storm Jerry on hold

CREATED Sep. 19, 2013
CAPE CORAL - The area of cloudiness in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico became a little less organized on Friday, however the National Hurricane Center is still watching it for development through the weekend.

There is still a 20 percent chance that this system will become an official tropical system over the next two days and possibly become Tropical Storm Jerry.

This system will be a rainmaker for Mexico and Texas through the weekend, but Southwest Florida will need to watch this system by the start of next week.

A cold front may help to direct some of that moisture toward Florida by Monday and Tuesday, and that could bring some heavy rains into many areas that are already saturated.

If this system does decide to turn toward Florida, the chance of it being anything more that a rainmaker are very slim.

Upper level winds would be strong and even with the warm water in the Gulf, it does not appear that this would be a major tropical system.

It will nedd to be watched throught he middle of next week.
