Tropical Depression #9 forms in Far-Eastern Atlantic
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Tropical Depression #9 formed earlier today and is currently located about 275 miles to the ESE of the the Cape Verde Islands. It has winds of 30 miles an hour and is moving to the west at 10 miles an hour. This motion will continue through Monday. Some time Tuesday, the storm is forecast to make a turn to the WNW and decrease its forward speed, remaining well to the south of the Cape Verdes. In that time frame, it should strengthen into tropical storm Ingrid. Ingrid is then forecast to strengthen into a hurricane by midweek. However, medium range models keep the storm in the open Atlantic, keeping it well away from land and the United States.
