FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida Governor Rick Scott says the US government has under delivered for the past 16 years when it comes to water quality in Florida.
The Governor says he is frustrated with how the US government has refused to meet its obligations, and Congressman Trey Radel says he can help!
Governor Scott said "if they had fixed the dyke in a timely manner, we wouldn't have all this water flowing into the St. Lucie river and the Caloosahatchee ... and messing up our waterways."
The Governor points out the the US government is supposed to match Florida when it comes to funding for water quality projects.
Of the 2.5 billion dollars Florida has invested, the feds have only given 1.6 billion.
Congressman Trey Radel was at the governors press conference and said he's going to change that.
Radel stated that "were going to have some success in Washington. We're working with Democrats and Republicans to make sure the federal government comes through on what it promised years ago."
Radel says he's in a position of power to bring about real change and added that "here's the good news - I'm on the committee for transportation and infrastructure i will do everything I can to insure that I am fighting for the state of Florida - fighting for SWFL, to make sure we have a healthy environment."
We will find out about Radel being able to make good on those promises when congress is next in session in November.
