Tracking the Tropics: Tropical Storm Karen Expected To Strengthen

Tracking the Tropics-
Tropical Storm Karen has weakened slightly with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph as it moves to the northwest at 10 mph.
On the forecast track, Karen will turn to the north while slowing slightly; this will allow Karen to strengthen slightly as it approaches the northern Gulf of Mexico on Saturday.
Karen's maximum sustained winds may reach 70 mph making it a strong tropical storm as it moves along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.
Tropical storm warnings is in effect from Grand Isle, LA to Destin, FL where tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 36 hours.
Karen is expected to produce rainfall totals of 4-8 inches over portions of the central & eastern Gulf Coast through Sunday night, those areas primarily along or east of the storm's path.
