Tracking the Tropics: Still relatively quiet
Meteorologist Jamie Kagol
Cape Coral, Fla - The tropics remain relatively quiet with only one area of low pressure producing showers & thunderstorms in the tropical Atlantic.
Located a several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, this area of low pressure has changed little in activity over the past couple of days and upper level winds are becoming less conducive to support further development.
If there is to be any strengthening, it is likely to be today before the upper level wind shear strengthens over the weekend.
There is a medium chance (40%) of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 5 days while it continues moving to the west-northwest at 10 mph.
