Tracking the Tropics: No storms

CREATED Aug. 20, 2013

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Dry air over much of the Atlantic and wind shear over the Caribbean and the Atlantic is helping to keep the tropics quiet.

None of the reliable computer models is forecasting any tropical cyclone formation for the next couple of days.

Typically we see our first hurricane by August 1st and our second by August 28; we haven't had a hurricane yet this season.

But before we start talking about a less active season, our 5th named storm usually doesn't show up until August 31st, Tropical Storm Erin in the open waters of the Atlantic last week was our 5th.
