Thief caught on camera in Whiskey Creek

By Katie Jones. CREATED Aug 19, 2014

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Lee County Sheriff's detectives are looking for a man who broke into a home in the Whiskey Creek area of Fort Myers and stole an SUV early Sunday morning.

According to detectives, the white male was caught by home surveillance cameras creeping around the back area of the home. After a few minutes, he entered through a living room door and reappeared a few minutes later with a purse and laptop.

"This guy knew what he was doing. I don't think he just  stumbled upon that house at 3 o'clock in the morning, perhaps may have scouted that house out ," Trish Routte, with SWFL Crimestoppers, said.

It was also discovered that the suspect got away with the victim's 2002 silver Toyota Four Runner.

"No matter what's taken, whether it's cash, jewelry, car, someone has entered your home and that's a violation of your privacy. You don't look at things the same way knowing that someone was walking through my kitchen, through my living room," Routte said.

Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000. Tips can also be submitted online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.
