Suspects sought in Punta Gorda area robbery

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives are looking for suspects in an armed residential burglary Tuesday morning in the Oil Well Road area of Punta Gorda.
Someone around 9:30 a.m. the victim heard noise inside her home in the 30000 block of Oil Well Road. As she checked the source of the noise she spotted two people in dark clothing and ski masks in her house.
She fled from her home with her child. As she left she spotted three suspects fleeing her home into the nearby woods. One suspect was carrying two of the victim's purses.
An initial manhunt of the area failed to find any of the other suspects but searchers found all of the property that had been stolen except for one item of jewelry.
Not long after a Sheriff's Office volunteer spotted a man in dark shorts and no shirt walking on Oil Well Road toward U.S. 41. Detectives stopped to speak with him and noticed he was wet from his knees to his shoes.
A witness told detectives that he had seen the same man coming out of the woods near the victim's home.
Detectives arrested Stephen Adam Twyman, 19, of Fort Myers on charges of loitering and prowling in that he was not able to explain his presence in the area of the burglary. Twyman was also charged with violation of probation since, according to his probation officer from Lee County, he was not allowed to be in Charlotte County. He is being held at the Charlotte County Jail with no bond as a result of the VOP charge.
The other were described as wearing black pants, long sleeved dark shirts and black ski masks while the third wore a black shirt with camouflage pants and a black mask.
