NAPLES, Fla.- A Naples woman said she was accidentally tripled charged for new wheels at Tire Kingdom. Kathleen Surette said the company told her it would take at least a week to get a refund. Surette said her daughter bought the tires last week as she prepared for her move to Iowa from Naples.
"She hit the road and the next day she called me very upset that her bank had called and told her that her account was over drawn because Tire Kingdom had triple charged." Surette said.
Surette said the company charged her daughter $407 for the tires plus an accidental extra $800.
"Very upset she was in tears. I would be too if I was in the middle of the country with a debit card that doesn't work." Surette said.
Surette called Tire Kingdom and their corporate headquarters several times and discovered her problem wasn't an isolated incident.
"They said they were aware that there was a problem, there had been many locations of Tire Kingdoms that were affected." Surette said.
According to a memo sent by the company's Operation and Treasury departments, more than 1,000 customers at over 600 Tire Kingdom, Merchant's and NTB stores had been a victim of duplicate charges and a refund would show up in customer accounts within 7 business days. Surette said that is too long to wait. FOX4 reached out to the company and is waiting to hear back but Surette said the company contacted her late Tuesday afternoon.
" They wanted her phone number so they could perhaps overnight a check to her." Surette said.
Surette said the company could've made an honest mistake but said the accident could do damage for those thousand plus customers.
" Maybe a lot of people don't check their bank statements and they've been ripped off and don't even know it." Surette said.
