Man rescued by Coast Guard near Sanibel Island
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — One man was rescued by the Coast Guard after the 26-foot boat he was aboard began taking on water three miles south of Sanibel Island, Monday.
Rescued was 38-year-old David Brown.
Brown contacted watchstanders at Sector St. Petersburg via VHF-FM channel 16 and his cellular phone reporting he was the only person aboard his vessel, Archangel, and was trying to keep up with the flooding using a hand pump.
A 29-foot Response Boat from Fort Myers Beach arrived on scene and attempted to dewater the vessel unsuccessfully.
Brown was taken aboard the Coast Guard boat as his vessel sank and was transported back to the station with no injuries.
He will make salvage plans for his vessel.
There is no report of pollution.
