FORT MYERS, Fla. - Lee County School District is welcoming more than 500 new teachers for the 2013-2014 school year. Today, many of those teachers participated in a new teacher induction program to learn about the fundamentals of teaching in the district.
"We want all of our new teachers coming in hearing a message of greeting from our board chair person as well as our superintendent to know what the priorities are for the district," said Dr. Denise Carlin, Executive Director of Staff Development.
Dr. Carlin said the goal is also to let teachers know the administrators are there to support them.
Despite the 500 new faces, the district still needs to hire 40 more teachers.
"We're still looking for the best and the brightest," Dr. Carlin said.
