Lee County deputy assigned to jail arrested

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A Lee County deputy assigned to the jail surrendered early this morning to face felony charges.
Jeremy Shaffer is charged with a 2nd degree felony for structuring transactions to evade reporting in excess of $20,000 and a 3rd degree felony for perjury in an official proceeding.
Shaffer had been placed administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation since April 2013.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office received information that Shaffer had possibly assisted someone in a fraudulent scheme in August and September of 2010. He was accused of providing false testimony in a sworn deposition last September.
Shaffer was hired in February 2007. He has been processed and released on $6,500 bail.
