FORT MYERS, Fla.- U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx announced a $10.5 million dollar grant to give Lee County bicycle-pedestrian paths. This project in Lee County is one of 52 projects in 37 states to receive funding from the DOT.

The project has 3 phases. Phase 1 includes a 35 mile segment designed to connect several Lee County parks anchored by Lakes Regional Park in south Fort Myers. The segment will also connect two stadiums including JetBlue Park and Hammond Stadium.

Phase 2 is the University Loop, a 15-mile segment to fill gaps in bicycle facilities linking FGCU campus to the rest of Lee county.

Phase 3 is a 22.8 mile bikeway segment that links Lee County, the city of Bonita Springs and Collier County. This phase will also include building bus shelters.

Construction is expected to begin soon and last 2-3 years.
