Heavy rain forecast prompts NWS statement
RUSKIN, Fla. - The National Weather Service - Tampa has put out a special hydrologic outlook for the threat of heavy rain over the next few days:
Returning deep tropical moisture, an approaching frontal system and a deepening mid-level disturbance will all contribute to an elevated threat for heavy rainfall in the coming days across Southwest Florida.
Widespread rain amounts of 2 to 4 inches are forecast with locally heavier amounts possible. While the last couple of days have been relatively dry and rain-free, that pattern will end today and many areas still have saturated ground from previous heavy rains this summer, particularly from Tampa Bay northward through the Nature Coast.
Several area rivers have recently approached or reached flood stage and remain a flood threat. Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service and be alert for possible watches, warnings or statements over the next several days.
