HARLEM HEIGHTS, Fla. - The female shooting victim in Saturday's shooting in Harlem Heights has been identified as 21 year old J’Leisa Ruffin of Fort Myers.
On Saturday Lee County Sheriff's investigators are investigated two shootings, including one that left one man dead in the Harlem Heights area of the county.
The man has been identified as 33-year-old Andres Lopez of Cape Coral.
A call came in around 3:40 a.m. asking for deputies to meet a driver on Old McGregor Boulevard and bring medical attention because there had been a shooting.
Deputies responded to the area and found one of the shooting victims, a woman, had made the call and crashed near the McGregor Woods community.
At around the same time a second call about shots fired came in for the 4800 block of Hager Court in the Harlem Heights community. Deputies found a man shot at that scene.
That man died of his wounds. The woman was taken to Lee Memorial and was in stable condition.
"I wasn't surprised," Harlem Heights neighbor Caitlin Prado said. "It the first time and it probably won't be the last time. It's very common in this neighborhood for something like that to happen."
Prado grew up in Harlem Heights and now lives there with her young daughter. She said although she loves her neighbors, she has seen too much crime lately.
"At some point it's got to stop, Prado said."
Prado said she wants more security in the neighborhood.
"I think it would be great if we constantly had at least one patrol car. Obviously not all day long because that can't happen, but at least a couple times a day," Prado said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Lee County Sheriff's Office at (239) 477-1000 or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
