Georgia veteran wins right to fly Marine Corp flag outside home
GRIFFIN, Ga. - A Georgia veteran has won a battle with his homeowner's association to fly two flags outside his home.
As a young man, Captain Jim Lowe fought for our country as a Marine. For the past two months, he's fought to fly the US flag and the Marine Corps colors at his home in the Sun City Retirement community.
However, Flying two flags violated the one flag per home rule set up by the management, and he received a fine on his 73rd birthday. Last month, despite public outcry, the property management stood by their rules. But now, they've done an about face.
"The new maximum was two flags as long as one of them was the US flag," said Lowe. "Which means I can now fly the US flag and the Marine Corps colors and not be in violation."
"Other Americans, if they've served in the military, they should be able to honor those service colors," Lowe added.
"This is what you're fighting for when you serve in the service. It is for freedom," said Sandy Lowe, Captain Lowe's wife.
Captain Lowe says he's thankful to everyone across the country who has shown him support.
