Fort Myers police release crime stats

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Police Department released crime stats for the first six months of 2013. The number shows that violent crime is up 2% compared to the same period from 2012.
The good news is a dramatic drop in the number of murders and robberies. So far there have been six murders in 2013 while there were 14 homicides in the same period a year ago.
Robberies are down 9.4% for the first six months of 2013 while the number of aggravated assaults has climbed 9.2%.
Property crime in Fort Myers took a tumble falling 6.3% with burglaries down 13.4%.
"I am proud of the men and women who serve the City each and every day”, said Chief Doug Baker. “The numbers show how hard we are working for the safety of our community.”
