Congressman Radel responds to government shutdowns

By Julian Glover. CREATED Sep 30, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. - With just hours until the government shutdown, what is Congressman Trey Radel doing to avert the shutdown and keep the government up and running?

Late Saturday, Congressman Trey Radel was a part of the cohort that voted 231 to 192 in the house to pass a budget through December of this year.

The budget would effectively bypass the current looming shutdown showdown, but  the budget calls for the delay of Obamacare, the President's signature health care law.

Senate leaders and the President have come out saying that any legislation that delays or defunds Obamacare will not be negotiated.

As expected, that bill died today when it was sent to the Senate for a vote.

So what is Congressman Radel doing now to avoid the shutdown?

He sent Fox 4 the following statement:

"Today, the House will vote for the third time to compromise and keep the government open. It is now, up to Harry Reid and the Senate to come to the table and work with House Republicans so we can avert this shutdown once and for all. In the event of a shutdown, I support legislation to ensure that Members of Congress do not get paid."
