FORT MYERS, Fla.- A new TV ad is attacking congressional hopeful Curt Clawson, however none of his opponents will claim responsibility. So Fox 4 started digging for answers.
The end of the ad clearly states in white writing that it's paid for by a political action committee called the Liberty and Leadership Fund.
And a quick web search of the Liberty and Leadership Fund, pulled up a "familiar" address. According to the Federal Election Commission, Liberty and Leadership Fund's home address is 115 E. Park Ave, suite 1, Tallahassee.
It's the same address as Lizbeth's Benacquisto's PAC, Alliance for a Strong Economy.
"Well, its not hard to connect the dots," says FGCU Political Science professor, Dr. Peter Bergerson.
Bergerson says State Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto is at the center of this media storm, and for good reason.
"She is the chosen candidate by the members of the leadership of the Republican party in Tallahassee," says Bergerson.
Furthermore, you can see that the Republican Party of Florida uses the same vendors to buy commercials as the Liberty and Leadership Fund, like Data Targeting Inc. and the Victory Group Inc.
When Fox 4 reached out out to Benacquisto for comment, it received only the following statement:
"Lizbeth and her campaign have no affiliation with any Super PAC.... Lizbeth remains focused on sharing her positive campaign to fix Washington with the voters."
