NAPLES, Fla. - The Collier County Sheriff's Office is warning about a telephone scam that involves the threat of being arrested.
The scammer claims to be a law enforcement officer with CCSO or the Naples Police Department. The scammer tells the victim there is a warrant for his or her arrest. They then advise the victim to pay a fee to avoid being arrested.
The CCSO and NPD does not request money in lieu of an arrest. Anyone receiving this type of call should hang up on the scammer.
For assistance with any suspicious encounter involving a request for money or personal information, contact the Collier County Sheriff’s Office’s Call Before You “Pay” hotline – (239) 252-CALL (2255). The hotline is staffed by a CCSO deputy in the Financial Crimes Bureau between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
