FORT MYERS, Fla. - A Cape Coral man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a weekend shooting incident in Fort Myers.
26-year-old J.D. Irons, Jr. was arrested by Fort Myers police and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and battery along with a handful of other charges.
The incident happened Saturday evening just before 6 p.m. in the 2500 block of Royal Palm Avenue. Police responded to a shots fired call.
The victim called police and said that she had gotten into a verbal fight that turned physical inside of her apartment with Irons, who was her boyfriend. The victim says she had caught Irons cheating on her with another woman. She then grabbed her two children to leave fearing the situation would escalate.
As she was putting the children into her car the victim saw Irons standing in the parking lot with her cell phone. When she went to get her cell phone she told Irons that she didn't want him or his brother returning to her apartment.
That's when the victim says Irons threatened to shoot at the car. The victim told police that he began throwing rocks at her car damaging it and as she pulled out of the parking lot he pulled a gun out of his front pocket and fired a shot at her car.
Police got a call Tuesday that Irons had returned to the address and they came and arrested him.
