CAPE CORAL, Fla. - One Southwest Florida mom, who doesn't want her identity known, says she is concerned about her 10-year-old son's football equipment.
"He was blindsided an went down," she said.
The next day, her son was dizzy and showing signs of a concussion, so she took him to the doctor. The doctor told her son to sit out for a week, but when he went back to his team at Cape Coral Junior Football Association, he was hit hard again, causing his mom to take a closer look at his helmet.
She said she didn't like what she saw, "this is like nothing, just foam rubber."
Fox 4 took pictures of the helmet to Bartley's Sporting Goods, which has been in the business for more than 100 years and has helped local teams find better, safer helmets.
Owner Loring Strickland said the helmet looked "traditional" and couldn't comment if the helmet was good or bad. But when Strickland looked at another helmet that had gel inside, she said it was better.
